Dear Jorge,

Happy New Year!  It's hard to believe that it's 2013 already.

As you celebrate the New Year, it's time to review the many things you are grateful for from 2012, and also to plan for the 12 months that are ahead.

In today's Main Essay, I teach you a simple process that will allow you to easily achieve your goals in 2013 by combating the #1 killer of productivity.  This is the most profound strategy I've ever used in my life for getting massive amounts of work accomplished in the shortest time possible.  So I highly recommend you try this strategy out for yourself.

In the Check It Out section, you learn about a special "Wake Up Productive" program that is available this week only from Eben Pagan.  If you want 2013 to be the year that you super-charge your productivity and finally achieve your goals, then I highly recommend you check out Eben's program.

We hope you enjoy this issue of the Thriving Business Newsletter.

How To Combat The #1 Killer of Productivity So You Can
Easily Achieve Your Goals In 2013

By Denise Gosnell

I'm the type of person who tends to be a perfectionist.  It is my natural instinct to keep working on a project until it is good as it possibly can be.  Perhaps you can even relate to this yourself?

Over the years as a business owner, I've learned that perfectionism is actually the #1 killer of fast business growth.  In today's tough business landscape, you have to be able to change and implement fast.

And if you get stuck trying to make every single project perfect, you will generally only achieve a small fraction of what you could have accomplished during that same time period.

I've learned the hard way that it's better to have something "good enough" that you can start selling, versus something outstanding that you never actually start selling because you're stuck trying to make it perfect.

In my quest to overcome perfectionism, I have tried nearly every time management process out there for getting things done as fast as possible, but with a quality level that I could live with.  And there are certainly tons of time management and project management processes that each person can benefit from.

But if I had to choose just one time management process to use for the rest of my life, it would definitely be the one I originally learned from Dan Sullivan of Strategic Coach.

Here's how that process works.

Step 1:  Finish The First 80% As Quickly As Possible

Focus on getting the project 80% completed as quickly as possible (i.e. the first version).

In most cases, once you get started and finish the first version of a project, your judgment will be that it is 80% done.  In other words, you will generally evaluate the quality of it and rate it as 80% of where you would like it to be.

And this is usually true whether you have spent a ton of time preparing for the project, or whether you jumped right in without preparation.

So think about that for a minute.  This is a really profound concept.  Whether you jump right into a project without any preparation at all, or whether you spend days or even weeks preparing to start it, you will still feel like it is 80% finished in nearly every case once you actually jump in and complete the first iteration of it.

If that's true, then why in the world would any of us ever want to waste valuable time preparing to start?  It would be better to just jump right in and get started, and focus on finishing the first 80% (the first version) as quickly as humanly possible.

In doing so, don't worry about being perfect.  Just focus on getting the first 80% done.

And to be clear, this doesn't mean that you have to personally be the one getting the first 80% done.  It just means that you have someone get the first 80% done.

Step 2:  Evaluate Whether It Would Be Worth The Effort To Make Improvements

Then, evaluate whether it is worth spending time to improve the project.  In the majority if instances, the 80% will be good enough and you can consider the project to be finished.

And if it's not, you can keep going with Step 3.

Step 3:  If The Current Version Isn't Good Enough, Focus On The Next 80%

If the current version (at 80% quality) is not good enough, then you focus on getting the next 80% done of the 20% that remains.

You can either have the person who did the first draft keep working on it based upon your feedback, or you can now put your own personal touches on the project to make it better.  The key point with this step is to again focus on getting the next 80% quality level done as quickly as possible (without focusing on being perfect).

And again, once finished, you evaluate whether or not it is good enough.  If so, the project is done, and you can move on to another project.

If it is still not good enough, you can proceed to Step 4.

Step 4:  Repeat Step 3 Until The Project Is "Good Enough"

You simply keep iterating through the process described in Step 3 again on the remaining 20% until it is "good enough".  When determining what is "good enough", just ask yourself how much difference it would really make if you went with this version versus spending time on an improved version.

If your customers would be happy with current version or it is otherwise good enough to serve the intended purpose, then why waste the time to keep going just so you would feel it is "perfect".

Once the project is good enough to consider "done", then you can roll it out and move on to your next project.  That's where you can build some serious momentum.

I know those 4 steps may sound simple, but can actually work wonders in your business and your life.  If you take the time to think about these steps carefully, you will see why perfectionism and procrastination are actually your worst enemies, and why this process can combat them once and for all.

The results you will see are nothing short of amazing.  At least that's what happened to me when I put this process into practice.

That's why I highly recommend that you give this strategy a try and watch your own productivity soar for the rest of 2013 and beyond.

And once you see that it really works for you, please share this strategy with everyone on your team so that you can super-charge the results for your entire company.

Jynell and I wish you continued success for 2013.  We always enjoy hearing from you too, so please keep your comments coming and let us know how we can help you.

Your Thriving Business Assignment

Here is a summary of the process that I use to super-charge my productivity:

1.  Finish the first 80% of the project as quickly as possible.  Don't worry about being perfect.

2.  Evaluate whether it would be worth the effort to make improvements.  In most cases, the first 80% is good enough and you're done.

3.  If the current version isn't good enough, focus on the next 80%.  Do another set of revisions to finish the next 80% of the 20% that remains.

4.  Repeat step 3 until the project is "good enough".

Issue # 149 - December 21, 2012
Dear Jorge,

Today, more and more businesses are "going green". Business owners have realized that becoming environmentally responsible is not only good for the planet, but also is good for their bottom line…

"Going green" may sound like an expensive proposition to a small business owner. But, this isn't the case. When done correctly, it can actually save your business money.

In today's Main Essay, I will share with you four tips on how you can reduce costs in your business by "going green".

In today's Check It Out section, you will learn how your business can start selling to the U.S. government in as little as 72 hours. The U.S. federal government is the largest buyer of goods and services in the country. Wouldn't it be great to have the largest entity in the United States as your own client?

The Truth About "Going Green" That May Be Costing You A Fortune
By Jynell Berkshire

You hear a lot of talk these days about "going green". You hear comments like "save the environment", "cut out the excess waste", etc. And all of those are important concerns that we all should take seriously.

However, many business owners today think that "going green" will put a huge dent in their wallets. However, there are several ways you can incorporate eco-friendly policies in your business on a daily basis for little cost. Often times, the littlest things are overlooked.  And when done correctly, you can actually save your business a lot of money while also helping the environment at the same time.

So let's look at four ways you can reduce costs in your business by "going green".

Savings Tip 1: Go Paperless (Or Almost Paperless)

A majority of businesses still think that leaving a paper trail is more permanent than leaving an electronic one. We use paper out of habit. For some, it would be a headache to switch from a paper-based work environment to an electronic one, while for others it is considered a technology investment.

However, going paperless doesn't keep you from printing out a document that you need to read in hard copy. Going paperless simply means that you should use paper wisely and sparingly, and, if you can find other effective alternatives then you should do so.

For example, instead of printing out an email and sticking it in your paper file, save it in an electronic version and store it on your computer instead. If you can send customer invoices to them electronically instead of printing them out and sending them through the postal service, then do so. This will not only save you in printing costs, but postage as well.

When you can't avoid printing a document, then print or copy it on both sides of a sheet of paper. Or if you are like me, if you print something in error, I often times will use the backside of the misprinted document as scrap paper instead of using post-it notes. This will help to reduce costs.

Savings Tip 2:  Conserve Energy By Powering Off Devices

Another way to save money in your business by "going green" is by conserving energy.

When you leave the office for the day, turn off any device that may be consuming energy, including your computer and computer monitors. Although your printers, fax machines, copiers and other office machines may be programmed on standby mode to use less energy, these devices are still continuing to draw down power. So remember to turn these off as well.

To save time, consider plugging all of your devices into one power strip, and turn that strip off at the wall. Remove any chargers you may have plugged in to an electrical outlet as well. Chargers will still draw a small amount of energy, even if there's nothing attached to them.

During the day, set your computer to go to sleep automatically during short, idle breaks instead of using screen savers. Screen savers use energy, and do not save energy. When you are not using your computer at all, turn it off completely to save energy.

When you leave for the day, make sure that you turn off all the lights. You may want to install energy efficient lights throughout your business that use less energy but give you the same lighting. This will also reduce your operational costs.

Savings Tip 3: Stop Buying "Bottled Water" For Your Office

The next savings tip may not be that obvious but can be easily implemented. It relates to the water that you drink in your office on a daily basis.

Believe it or not, one way you can save money in your business is to quit drinking bottled water. Despite the best intentions, most plastic water bottles are not recycled and end up in landfills. It's terrible for the environment, but it's also terrible for your bottom line.

Bottled water is expensive, especially if you are consuming a lot of it on a daily basis. To reduce costs, switch to a filtered water system. You may even want to switch to one that will help you to improve your overall health. This is what Denise and I did over a year or so ago. We installed in our office a Kangen alkaline water-based system made by Enagic that our personal health coach, Jason Moore, recommended.

Most people don't know that the typical foods we eat in our fast food and restaurant lifestyles are full of highly acidic foods like processed sugar, meats, dairy, coffee, alcohol, etc. Extended acid imbalances of any kind can overwhelm our bodies, and lead to health complications.

Believe it or not, the human body has a lot in common with a fish tank. The fluids in our bodies also need to have the pH level (acid - alkaline measurement) in balance. In fact, when the pH of the body gets out of balance (too acidic), we may experience low energy, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even more serious disorders. It is critically important that these acids be balanced out and neutralized by alkaline foods and/or alkaline water.

By adding more alkalinity to your body, you will improve your overall health, you may even see your health problems disappear or become substantially reduced. Denise and I have both seen this first hand with our own personal experiences.

For us, it's a "win-win"…even after recouping our initial investment to purchase the water filtration system. We have not only improved our health, but have reduced an ongoing operational cost.  We no longer buy "bottled water" for our office, and now just drink water from this machine.

Savings Tip 4:  Buy Energy Efficient Products and Recycle Office Equipment and Office Supplies

You can also save money in your business by using energy-saving computers, monitors and printers and by recycling office supplies.

When it comes time to replace your outdated computers, monitors and printers with new technology, make it a policy to invest in energy-saving equipment instead. Look for equipment that has the federal government's "Energy Star" label on it.

The "Energy Star" label will let you know that the product is an energy efficient product. "Energy Star" computers, printers and other business machines automatically power down when not in use to reduce energy costs.

Often times, there are tax deductions available for businesses that recycle their old office equipment. So, keep this in mind when you are looking to purchase new office equipment. Just make sure that your old office equipment is disposed of properly.

You can also reduce operational costs in your business by recycling your empty ink and toner cartridges. Almost all of the national brand office supply stores have recycling programs.

For example, Staples has a rewards program where you get money back on certain eligible cartridges that you bring back in the store or send back to them to be recycled. Some of the office supply stores will even send you pre-paid ink jet and toner cartridge recycling boxes for free for you to mail back to them. Look for these money-savings programs to help you reduce operational costs.

So, there you have it, four tips you can use to reduce costs in your business by "going green".

Your Thriving Business Assignment

1.  Go paperless (or almost paperless) in your office whenever possible.

2.  Conserve energy by turning off of all of your printers, fax machines, copiers and other office machines before you leave at the end of the day. Also, set your computer to automatically go to "sleep mode" during short, idle breaks instead of using screen savers.

3.  To reduce energy costs, turn off all the lights in your office when you leave at the end of the day. You may want to install energy efficient lights throughout your business for further energy savings.

4.  Stop drinking bottled water and install a water filtration system in your business. For a system that can improve your overall health, consider a Kangen alkaline water-based system.

5.  When purchasing new office equipment, purchase energy-savings equipment with the "Energy Star" label.

6.  Recycle old office equipment whenever possible.

7.  Recycle empty ink and toner cartridges and take advantage of any money-savings recycling programs.

Check It Out!

Did you know that the federal government spends billions of dollars every single year buying everything you can possibly imagine, including toilet paper, office supplies, and computers? And yes, this also includes green products.

If your business is not currently pursuing the U.S. government as a client, then you may be missing out on a huge opportunity.

And with today's world of technology, the U.S. government now uses a reverse auction that make it easy for small businesses to respond online to compete and win contracts that are less than $25,000.

Denise and I created a step-by-step report that shows you how to start selling to the US government within just a few days.

Dear Jorge,

I am a firm believer that how you think about your business (positively or negatively) on a regular basis determines the level of success you will achieve.

The more clarity you give to your goals and visions, the more you will be able to attract and identify the opportunities, people, and solutions that will help make your goals come true.

Some people call this concept the "Law of Attraction". Other people refer to this concept by saying "what you focus on expands".

But whatever you want to call it, the truth is, the more you focus on what you want, the more likely it is to come true.  (And unfortunately, the more you focus on what you don't want, the more likely it is to come true too).

In today's Main Essay, you will learn a 3-step process you can apply in your business to help you reach your goals.

In today's Check It Out section, my friend, Natalie Ledwell, shares with you her amazing discovery on how to put your success on auto-pilot. It is totally mind-boggling! Natalie used to be overweight, struggling entrepreneur who was swimming in debt, working 15 hours a day, and saw no way out. Today, she is a co-owner of a multi-million dollar company.

In the Quick Tips section, you will learn how certain types of exercises are good for your body, how to ensure you have a productive and healthy day, and how to lift your spirits with a quick trick.

How To Attract Everything You Want
By Jynell Berkshire

Have you ever said something out loud over and over again wishing it would come true…and it did?

Some people call this is the "Universe Theory" where you speak positive affirmations or visualize your desired outcome and it comes true by putting positive energy out to the universe.

Others may call this same concept the "Law of Attraction". Bob Proctor, the author of the best-selling book and film, "The Secret", is the master thinker and teacher of this concept.

The Law of Attraction states that what you think about and pay attention to the most, you will attract into your life. In other words, what you visualize will actually happen and what you put out to the universe will be returned to you in like kind. If you expect to succeed, then success will be yours.

Now, you may think that the Law of Attraction is a little out there or that it is too new age. And it's fine if you feel that way, because a lot of people do.

But you have to admit that when you spend a lot of energy on something (positive or negative), there seems to be a certain type of momentum that gets behind you in that same direction.

Have you ever felt like the better it gets, the better it gets…or the worse it gets the worse it gets?

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

So I think most people will agree with me that your attitude and what you focus on certainly has some level of impact on how quickly you get what you want out of your life and business.

So what does all this mean?

In essence, if you want to attract something, such as a large number of sales, you need to change your thinking from "wanting" to "feeling" as if you already have what you are trying to attract.

So, let's look at three steps on how you can apply these concepts in your business to attract more customers and reach your goals. Denise and I personally use these steps daily in the operations of our business.

Step 1: Maintain A Positive Attitude

When starting or running a business, it is more important than ever to maintain a positive attitude. Take for example, successful people such as Oprah Winfrey.

In a television episode of the "Oprah Next Chapter's Show" on her "OWN Network," I heard Oprah speak about how she prepares before for every interview. She visualizes the outcome of the interview, puts a smile on her face, and exerts a positive attitude to make the interviewee feel comfortable.

By starting out with positive thoughts and emotions, you literally magnetize yourself and attract all the people and help that you need.

For example, if you think of the law of attraction as a mirror that uses your current reality to reflect back to you, then you most definitely don't want to be negative. If you are resentful towards your business you are essentially limiting the potential for financial growth that can stem out of those avenues.

The same is true with customers. If you want to attract your ideal customer or increase your customer base, then having a positive mindset is key. When you appreciate your customers and show that appreciation, they are attracted to you and want to do business with you.

In addition to maintaining a positive attitude, you should also visualize your desired outcome, which is the next step.
Check out this free action packed video.

It features Natalie Ledwell and her amazing discovery on how to put your success on auto-pilot…and it is totally mind-boggling!

Natalie opens up about her life before the massive success of her company, back when she was an overweight, struggling entrepreneur who was swimming in debt, working 15 hours a day, and saw no way out.

It all changed a few years ago, and Natalie finally spills the beans on how she's managed to turn it ALL around.

See how she did it right here and how YOU can too.

Step 2: Visualize Your Desired Outcome And Take Action

To consciously create business success, you should visualize your desired outcome. Visualize what it feels like to attract and interact with new customers. If success for your business means selling more products, then mentally put yourself in the emotional state of what it feels like when you realize your product sales are up.

Whatever the case, plug in as many details as you can, and remember that you are not just looking at the scene in your mind but you are also feeling what it will be like during that moment. Just picture yourself in that successful moment and feel how great it is to be there. And, the best part is that it doesn't take much time to visualize.

Once you have visualized your success, you now must take action as the opportunities rush into your life to help you fill in the blanks. You can't just stop at visualizing.

Visualizing is just the step that helps you attract the answers and opportunities that you are looking for.  You then have to act once those opportunities and solutions are presented.

Step 3: Take Time To Reflect On Your Business

It's also a good idea to spend some time every day reflecting on your business. This is a good way for you to be mindful of your business and your relationship with your business and your customers.

For example, ask yourself these following questions:

-Why am I in business? Is it the business I want to be in?

-How do I serve my customers and contribute to their needs?

-Right now, do I love or resent my business?

-Who is my ideal customer that I would like to attract to my business to do business with?

By taking time every day to reflect and answer these questions, you will get a better idea of what needs to be done to grow your business.

You will also be able to gauge if you are maintaining more positive thoughts or more negative thoughts on a regular basis.

Remember, the quality of your thoughts is reflected in your feelings … and your feelings determine your actions.

If you resent the fact that your business isn't as successful as you want it to be, you may feel like a failure. These feelings may then cloud your judgment and affect the success of your business.  And that negativity may then attract more negative things.

So as you think daily about your business and how you feel about your progress, you can stay in tune with your overall attitude and progress.

This will also help you seize the opportunities that will come your way as you continue to visualize your business exactly as you want it too.

So there you have it, three steps on how you can achieve more success in your business and your life.
Here is a 3-step process you can use to help you achieve your business and personal goals:

1.  Always try and maintain a positive attitude, even when life throws you curve balls.

2.  Visualize your desired outcome on a regular basis and take action as opportunities that are in alignment with that outcome are presented to you.

3.  Take time daily to reflect on your business and how you feel about it.  This will help you gauge your progress and identify the positive aspects that you should continue focusing on.

Body:

Exercising offers a variety of benefits for the body — helping your heart and even increasing your bone density. However, certain types of exercises may be painful as you grow older, have problems with your joints, or are simply recovering from an injury. If this is the case, then try low impact exercises such as yoga, water aerobics or walking.

Mind:

Believe it or not, you have a lot of control over whether you feel good, have a clear mind, and ultimately whether or not you have a productive day. If you simply decide when you wake up that you are going to have a productive day and that you are going to feel good, you can make it happen. You just need to put your positive focus on the outcome you want out of your day, say it to yourself or out loud, and watch then watch your day happen exactly as you planned. It takes some practice, but if you make this a habit, you will definitely find it to be worthwhile.

Stress:

For a quick de-stressing trick, turn to an underrated sense — your sense of smell. Japanese researchers have found that linalool; a substance found in lemons, has anti-inflammatory properties and may reduce the flight-or-fight stress response. Other scents like basil, juniper, and lavender have also been found to lower stress and lift your spirits.
