We need to develop leadership among the BPI staff. We have new staff, not one is a seasoned matured (with TRM) individual a Holy Gardener. Many exhibited behavior that shows them wanting in leadership:
Objectives:
1. To have every one from 3ffb staff to the SBU to have clearer understanding of leadership
2. To gain efficiency and effectiveness
3. To have apostles, band of leaders to get the company nearer the vision
4. To be more successful staff, managers, leaders, ie reaching goals, and accomplishing plans
Reality:
1. They cant get things done right and time, if all started;
2. They often ask for guidance despite being on the job for sometime
3. They show resistance, adamance, stubbornnes,
4. They run away from problems, especially the difficult one, and freeze
5. Often answering wala po, wala nang mangyayari
6. Being resource oriented - that all problems can be solved only by more men, money and machinery rather than being resourceful; having initiative and entrepreneurship (maparaan, madiscarte)
7. Unable to show good example (being pasaway themselves) and hence to exact obedience from co workers trainees SBUs and subordinates
This is not to mention that our records are incomplete, in shambles, we do not know the status of our performance (delayed or non existent financial reports) that we intrigue ridden. SBUs do not submit reports, we have incomplete staffing
3. WTDN
ABE on leadership for discussion and more understanding:
What is leadership?
We often say, the head leads the tails. The followers follow the leaders;
If you want to be a leader, first you must learn how to obey. Thus apprenticeship is the best form of leadership training. Those who rise from the ranks are the best leaders. Because they are in touch with reality and with people who move things.
At Holy Gardens we wrote in the principles:
1. To give capable and intelligent direction in the management of business.
1. First it requires knowledge and wisdom; hence we require book reports or internet browsing. You can not lead, nor teach things that you do not know or have, or understand
2. It requires capability: right attitude, right strategy, being aligned with the people and organization;
3. Tops in problem solving; being able to confront directly and resolutely problems or hindrances to the achievement of goals
2. To recognize the impact of corporate activities in the community where it operates and hence to contribute to the well being of the community (CSR)
This calls for inventiveness, thinking out of the box, being out of comfort zone to help others, to be answer to some ones prayer, being a blessing to others. This is thinking out of the box being creative; going beyond the scope of your business to be of service to others
This is servant leadership
1. Being number one in your field;
2. Being the influencer in the group/organizastion;
3. It is influencing others through your words or action, nothing more nothing else
4. It starts from within;
5. It was conceived to be the authority and power granted to those who occupy the position bestowed upon the person by reason of appointment or election
6. The common and new concept, is that every body is a leader no matter what the position in the society or organization. We are all leaders no matter what: Even if we are not leaders in our organization: we are a kuya to your brothers and sister; a mother or father or a trusted, reliable member of the community. Each one of us is a leader by default; We influence all other people we meet; hence the need for leadership in every one
Worth further reading is the book on Heroic Leadership by Chris Lowney, a former Jesuit, who worked at Wall Street, and who found out that the Ignatian Leadership principles works well in the business environment:
