Vertical gardens at Megamall near the supermarket

BE a BIDDA: "BELIEVE, INSPIRE, DREAM, DO ACHIEVE"

Angono, Rizal Philippines October 4, 2014

There is a new vertical garden at the San Miguel Avenue, back of Megamall, near the elevated parking lot, adjacent to the boundary of MegaMall and Shang.  It is about 3 x 10 meters.  It is anchored on the wall, and the planting medium is steel wire mesh. The planters in plastic bags are held together by net and sewn by wire to the wire mesh.

The plants are planted according to type and massed in rows, like all ferns, lilies,  all copea etc.  They look nice, dont they?

Are we benchmarking this vertical garden?

See that all plants are in original plastic bags

The plastic bags are held by wires and net

The wire mesh are held by dowels sunk into the fence

Let us benchmark other lampost

TO         Brenn

CC:        Ed B

Subject:    Lampost Design and PDCA -  please benchmark
Situation background:

1.  Right after November 1, 2012, I requested for plan and proposal for the construction of Lamp Post to accommodate metal halide and it called for few posts that are omni directional and equipped with ladder and cage for access by electrician.  I guess the height was for 30 to 40 ft and called for massive design and structure.

2.  However:

      1.  The proposal slept in many desk for 11 months;   the engineer gave it the cmo for budget, the cmo and the controller did not attend to this;  and the project engineer could only point to these causes why the project was not started at all

     2.  The new technology called for LED with lower intensity and lumens

     3. The redesign was presented sometime in September and much lower post were needed only 20 ft;  I requested for a redesign for 20 ft post.

3.  Then all of sudden Brenn requested for the approval of a lamp post project that was 20 ft, had horizontal bars;  however the cost and the design LOOKED AS OVER OR EXCESSIVE.

i  LOOKED AT OTHER MALLS WITH 20 FT LAMP POSTS AND TRIED TO COMPARE THIS WITH OUR DESIGN:

Lamp post:     20 ft 6 inches with cage and horizontal bar schedule?

Pedestal:    1.5 meter  1.5 meter hgt from ground 2.2 meter

base plate 14 inches x 14 inches (thk unknown with 8 studs no gusset,

The design was apparently applicable to  a much higher lamp post that needs access facility and safety for servicing the lamp post (replacing bulbs)  However we have much lower post (20ft) that can be accessed by stairs and does not need additional accessories.

The following pictures reflect more economical and more practical design:

They looked like:

20 ft tall, 5 inches post, with gusset support, (4 to 6 inches - 3/8,  pedestal of say 30 cm visible or more, 4 anchor bolts (maybe 20 to 22 mm)  6 x 6 baseplate..  Let us cost down and make our design more efficient?

At Megamall, the pedestal looks like 30 to 40 cm

                                       Baseplate at Megmall;   6 x 6 inches, 1/2 thk, 4 bolts

Lamp post at starmall crossing, 20 ft maybe 5 inches

                                                   The lamp attachment

8 inches x 8 inches base plate with 4 bolts;  no Gusset

Attachment points for lamps at the end of the post;  details

                                                  At Jollibee Turbina:

8 inch by 8 inch base plate, maybe 1/2, with 4 bolts, only 20 mm;   galvanized

                                              Other view of base plate

Bottom view of the details of lamp attachment (reverse of base plate;  with angle bar and drilled holes for ready installation/attachment)

                                               Another efficient base plate design

20 fr tall lamp post with thin maybe 4 inches posts.

Meeting with CC and BGG representing the north and south cluster

"Pag gusto, may paraan; pag ayaw, maraming dahilan " It is about getting better everyday.

I met with Cynthia and Brenn who represent the north and south cluster at Megamall Red Ribbon last Tuesday.

We discussed progress of the  the Nov l preparation, the sales campaign from September to October.  Cynthia committed 100 lots for Holy Gardens Greenhills, Brenn 50 for Pangasinan.  While they said 50 for Calapan, Oton, and Lump each, I am not convinced of the determination of the capability of the chiefs and they must be assisted further.

Cynthia showed me the progress of the drawings  for the "bangin" portion of the Holy Gardens
