Gospel today, Mark 12: 28- 34 - The second greatest commandment - service to others

PAGSASANAY SA TAGUMPAY

What  is the Gospel today, 31st Sunday in ordinary time:

One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
"Which is the first of all the commandments?"
Jesus replied, "The first is this:
Hear, O Israel!
The Lord our God is Lord alone!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength.

The second is this:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these."
The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher.
You are right in saying,
'He is One and there is no other than he.'
And 'to love him with all your heart,
with all your understanding,
with all your strength,
and to love your neighbor as yourself'
is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding,
he said to him,
"You are not far from the kingdom of God."

The 2nd greatest commandment which is loving our neighbor as ourselves is the crux of servant leadership and of our belief:   customer service.    Business is about creating customer and serving them well.  Business with great service prosper (as those who serve best in tennis or volleyball) because they are in accordance with this commandment and are therefore blest

This is not truly right and just as dictated by our organization but by the  Scriptures, the mandate coming from no less than the Lord Himself.   Shall we defy this?

Becoming fishers of man - Jesus Christ wants the ordinary to be extra ordinary

Gospel Reading at the Sunday mass February 7, 2016

I went to the church yesterday in Pangasinan and the Gospel was from Luke: 1:11  ie that Jesus Christ made the 12 fishermen his disciples.  To be FISHERS OF MEN.

Gospel, Luke 5:1-11

1 Now it happened that he was standing one day by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the crowd pressing round him listening to the word of God,
2 when he caught sight of two boats at the water's edge. The fishermen had got out of them and were washing their nets.
3 He got into one of the boats -- it was Simon's -- and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.
4 When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch.'
5 Simon replied, 'Master, we worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out the nets.'
6 And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear,
7 so they signalled to their companions in the other boat to come and help them; when these came, they filled both boats to sinking point.
8 When Simon Peter saw this he fell at the knees of Jesus saying, 'Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.'
9 For he and all his companions were completely awestruck at the catch they had made;
10 so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. ButJesus said to Simon, 'Do not be afraid; from now on it is people you will be catching.'
11 Then, bringing their boats back to land they left everything and followed him.

Reflection:
God wants us to exert more efforts in what we do.  To be good fishermen one must be patient and bide his time.  Nothing happens without God's intervention.  In whatever we do, we pray.  We start the day in work with prayer. Prayer is one of the Ps of marketing.
God works in extra ordinary ways through ordinary people.  God wants you to be extra ordinary.

Are you ordinary or extra ordinary?   Does God work through you to do extra ordinary things? If not what are you?
