5 tips to being more effective
No one wants to be known as the "lazy pile" or the one who never gets things done. Most people prefer to make a good impression on people and be known as an effective and efficient worker, be it at home or at work. For some people this comes naturally. Others must struggle a bit more to reach the point where they can effectively get their work done. If you're one of those people that fit in the second category, then this article is for you. By following these 5 tips to being more effective, you will create in yourself a new person.1. Learn to communicate: communication is one of those things that you can't survive without in any aspect of life (work, family, social, etc). If you can't communicate efficiently, you'll never be able to get what you want out of life. So here are some tips on how to learn to communicate.
be specific about what you want to say and what you're asking for
pay attention to non-verbal communication (this is especially important since 90% of communication is seen in gestures, body language and facial expression)
make sure that you are understood by your listener-the majority of miscommunications occur because the speaker did not get his point across, listen actively to the other person you're talking to.
3. Manage your time: if you're always rushing from place to place, never having enough time to get things done, chances are good that you're not being very effective. Take a step back and examine the things that are taking so much time. If necessary, eliminate some of those things that cause you to rush around. If you find that there is nothing you can remove from your schedule, carefully plan out your day. Look at ways you can save time doing something simple so that you aren't late for a meeting with the boss or late picking up your kids from school. Even doing something as simple as eating breakfast 10 minutes faster can really have an impact on your day and allow you to arrive in a timely and unhurried manner.
4. Learn how to network: in any job, having connections to the right people can be invaluable. If you have the ability to network, you have the ability to effectively complete your tasks. Here are a few quick pointers to effective networking:
*make a good impression that will be remembered
*smile-no one likes a grump
*remember your communication skills
*follow through with your commitments to people
5. Have a positive and determined outlook: positive people are happy people. Other people want to be around happy people. Positive people are not depressed, do not drag their feet at work, and do not waste their time complaining. It's amazing how much more effective you can be in any aspect of your life if you just decide that you're going get the job done, regardless of what it is.
Being a more effective person can make you a happier, stress-free person.
By following the above mentioned tips, you will find that your ability to be affective is greatly improved. Good luck!
