Fungus and drought are just two of the negative impacts climate change has had on the world's food supply this year. For most of the 20th century, humanity managed to stay on top in the battle between population growth and food supply. Will we be able to maintain that trend in the 21st century, or are we headed for a global catastrophe?
Biofuel production is booming, up fivefold in the last decade. Investment in biofuel technologies creates more renewable fuels and jobs, but critics argue that industry-friendly policies have artificially inflated demand, and producing green fuels like corn-based ethanol diverts land and water resources away from food crops.

farm census, taken once every five years, shows that the average age of principal farm operators is now 58 years old—nearly 17 years older than the average American worker.
