Creating a speed culture

Countries are plagued by red tapes, companies are are infected with delayed orders, deliveries, cancellation of sales order.

Sometimes, in the Phil, we are as country being branded as on time means being in a "ten o clock"  (that is a common perception for govt officials:   managers, judges, and other vips.   Filipino time is being late always (as what a Phil. flag carrier does most of the time  its early flights are on time but after 12 flights are usually 1 or more hours late.  Reasons given are:   crowded tubes, slow turn around by crews, heavy air traffic)

We got to solve this.  This means wasted fuel, wasted time and wasted manpower.

We can invest in technology and training to build a speed culture.

I have observed that some establishments are not selling enough because there are bottlenecks/delays that are not being observed.  I saw a Summit store in one of the supermarket with a bottleneck, the cash register creating lines and driving away buyers because the cashier takes at least 5 minutes to serve a customer.  More pos needed?  Pit stop training for the cashier?

Walmart invested a $100 million in sat tech to shave off 15 seconds in its credit card processing time.  That 15 second means hundreds of thousands of delayed sales processing and consequently, lost sales in an entire day.  Walmart was well aware that time is money and thus made that huge investments.  Thus its selling billions way ahead of its competitors

Some rules to live by to build a speed culture

1. Get the right people;

2. When you are done practice/train some more

3.  Find people who can perform under pressure

4.  Find people who want to win

More lessons from Formula 1 racing

Good habits, professionalism, teamwork, being smooth, and post mortem analysis every time.

Here are a few other things that F1 teams do exceptionally well
  • Pushing the limits of the rules- teams that push the rules usually have an early advantage
  • Teamwork- Teams do an incredible job at making sure everything is in perfect order.
  • Building good habits- Mechanics are drilled to do their jobs perfect every time.
  • Post race scrutineering- Data analysis isn’t just for setting up the car before the race, they also go over the data to get an early start on the next race.
  • Speed comes from being smooth- Everything from the pitstop to the way the drivers enter a corner is done smooth and controlled to maximize speed and also equipment failures.
  • Professionalism- The whole reason teams race is to either showcase their product and/or make money by advertising other companies products. They keep the cars and equipment meticulous.
