An ailing hospital was turned around by Lady Exec through systems and discipline

"I listen and I forget, I see and remember, I experience and I understand" - a Chinese proverb

A large hospital in a central business district was rescued by a giant conglomorate. To turn this hospital the chairman recalled a retired lady SVP from the telco mainstream.  The experience of the lady was in IT, consumer banking, and quality (six sigma), process improvement.  She is a non MD

To her horrors she found out the following:

l.  No po system for purchases

2.  Non existent record keeping;

3.  No uniform system of pricing, discount;

4.  No cash and inventory control

Everything was in disarray;  no discipline in everything.

Thus the hospital was bleeding to death;  the doctors in the er, the surgeons did not know how to stop the bleeding;   homeostats and clamps wont do.

A non md had to step in to stop the bleeding.  How did she do it? Can we do this too?

  1. We are also like the ailing hospital and we must think just like Ms. Rose. We must have disciplined people with disciplined mind to have a disciplined actions, too can do great things and improve where we are now.

    Our organization is also like that hospital.

    1. Disorganized files;
    2. Standard cost are not memorized/known by the marketing and sfc;
    3. Masterlist and ledgers are not updated;
    4. People resist on book reports (which supposed to be our KEY on improving and solving our problems)
    5. Customer complaints were higher than inquiries and prospects.

    But I have faith and I believe that we can also turn into great organization. Let us be all in-charge.

  2. Cash flow is the heart of the SBU. Without organized and monitored cash flow, an SBU can turned worst. To prevent that, we must disciplined ourselves and the people around us.

    Everything must be in order and must have a system and correct process. We will start in our SBU so we can be a model to others.

  3. Hiring the right people for the job is one key to a successful organization. Investing in a human resources is not a waste of money. Maybe this people have lost on track because they don't have a leader. They have a manager but don't know how to manage.
    Because our business is on marketing we should hire competent marketing people and we should back them up. There are a lot of things that are still to improve if we want to be the leader in our industry.

  4. I think we must have a discipline: discipline people, with discipline mind and to have discipline action. Actually we have a system unlike to the Makati Medical,but unfortunately we do not follow the system that we have that's why we are nearly like a Makati Medical. Let us be in unity to change for a better and to be the BEST....
